Interkom Kom Ind

Danish rock(ish) band Nephew have finally released their follow-up to 2004’s success USADSB. The first single Igen & Igen & was an instant hit for me, but the new album is not though, but neither was USADSB.

The new album is titled Interkom Kom Ind, which is a play on words in danish. It’s more raw that their previous album, which had a more popish sound. At this time I’ve listened through the album a couple of times and I have a feeling it’s growing on me, which is pretty much what happened with USADSB, so I think it will frequent my CD player quite often in the coming days.

I guess this means I’ll recommend it to others, so have a look at their website over at nephew.dk.

iPod Firmware Fun

A little while ago I decided it was time to update the firmware in iPod. Not really sure why, I guess I didn’t have anything more exciting to do at that particular moment. While download the firmware updater I stumbled upon the Ipod Wizard site where you can download the software of the same name.

This piece of software enables you to patch the official Apple iPod firmware. It looked kinda cool, so I gave it a spin. I found a rather decent theme and applied the icons patch as well. Have a look in the gallery for the end result.

Custom iPod firmware

Today I stumbled upon the Rockbox replacement firmware for the latest iPod models. It has some really cool features, like crossfade support and support for a lot of different audio formats such as Ogg and FLAC. Unfortunately it does not support video playback and I couldn’t find any information if they expect to support it in the future. As expected it doesn’t support music purchased from the iTunes music store, because of the DRM.

I have a 5G iPod (aka. iPod Video) so the lack of video playback makes Rockbox that much less interesting. But if they add decent video playback in the future I’ll be sure to try it out.

Back when I had my 4G iPod I did try iPod Linux for a while. It dual boots between Linux and Apple’s stock firmware, so I could test it when I felt like it. However, back then iPod Linux didn’t have power management among other things, so it wasn’t really an option for daily use. I haven’t checked much up on the support and new features since then, but it has probably gotten more advanced over time.

You can find more information on the Ipod port of Rockbox at their wiki.
